How to Get the Old Facebook Chat Back

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Hate the new version of Facebook chat? You’re definitely not alone. Lots of users dislike not being able to choose who they see online. Personally, I dislike not being able to see my friends according to my friend groups.. and especially not being able to appear offline to specific groups (ie: creepers who always seem to hit you up the second you log on).

If you want the old Facebook chat back, here are some simple, easy instructions. Follow the instructions for the browser you use.

Internet Explorer:

1. You’re still using Internet Explorer? Do yourself a huge favor and upgrade to Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari or Opera. :)

Google Chrome:

1. Go to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/107159
2. Click the “Install” button. Hint: It’s green and located in the top right hand corner of your screen.
3. Wait minute or so.
4. Refresh Facebook or open it in a new window.
5. You shouldn’t have to do this last step, but if you still aren’t seeing the old Facebook chat, delete your cache and/or log out of Facebook, then log back in.

Firefox:

1. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/
2. Install GreaseMonkey
3. Restart your browser
4. Go to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/107159 and click on the green “Install” button.
5. Log out of Facebook and then log back in.
6. If you still aren’t seeing the old Facebook chat, clear your cache and then re-login to Facebook.

Congratulations! You did it!

These instructions work in nearly all cases. If they don’t work for you, let me know by leaving a comment below.

Welcome to ProjectHelium.com

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

ProjectHelium LLC was launched today. I’ve had the domain for sitting around awhile, but I officially set up shop and registered the business today. I will not be posting here often, or developing this site much at all. I will, however, be providing links, information and reviews for services and resources I recommend. Mostly, I just wanted to have a place I could send people when they ask for help, consulting or recommendations. So, if you find yourself here, then welcome!
